In 2018, Agroserv's investment in a new production line for maize processing enhanced local capacity for producing maize bran and residues, contributing to a market volume of 98.0 thousand tons. The following year, the market contracted to 78.9 thousand tons. The establishment of the Maize Interprofessional Organization of Burkina Faso (IMA-BF) in September 2020 helped structure the maize value chain, supporting a recovery to 82.1 thousand tons that year.

The adoption of improved agronomic recommendations led to a substantial increase in cereal production in 2021, driving the market for maize bran and residues to 101.6 thousand tons. However, in 2022, a sharp rise in fertilizer prices due to the war in Ukraine and growing insecurity in some regions negatively affected agricultural output, reducing the market volume to 91.9 thousand tons. In response, the government's 2023 initiative mobilizing military personnel and volunteers to support agricultural production helped reverse the decline, bringing the market back to 98.8 thousand tons despite ongoing fertilizer availability challenges.

After a two-year decline, Burkina Faso's production of maize bran, sharps, and residues has rebounded. In 2020, the country produced 82.3 thousand tonnes, marking a moderate increase of 4.3% compared to 2019. Production reached its lowest point in 2019 at 78.9 thousand tonnes, which represented a significant decline of 19.5% that year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production decreased by 21.7%, equivalent to an annualized rate of 7.8%.
