Earlier Report Observations

In 2018 and 2019, the market volume for maize bran and residues remained stable at around 655 thousand tons and 643 thousand tons, respectively. During this period, the grain deep-processing industry in the region began to develop, marked by increased production of corn and wheat starches, which laid the groundwork for future supply of bran as a by-product.

The market expanded significantly to 796 thousand tons in 2020, driven by an increase in corn cultivation areas and growing demand for grain processing. This growth accelerated in 2021, when active exports of wheat bran, including a 27% increase by the company Agro Zerno Yug, stimulated production, pushing the market volume to a peak of 1 085 thousand tons.

From 2022, geopolitical sanctions and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains, reducing the market to 951 thousand tons. The decline continued in 2023, when adverse weather conditions such as frosts and drought in key regions lowered corn yields, further decreasing bran production and bringing the market volume down to 768 thousand tons.
