Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2021, the Norwegian liquid egg market volume increased from 1 175 tons to 1 246 tons. This growth was supported by the market regulator Nortura's actions, which included freezing storage measures and the establishment of a dedicated regulatory unit, Norsk egg- og kjøttråvare (NOEK), in 2021 to strengthen supply balance. However, new entrants in the egg industry from 2022 onward led to overproduction, causing the market volume to decline to 1 237 tons in 2022 and 1 229 tons in 2023, despite regulatory efforts to remove excess eggs from the market.

Throughout the period, Nortura's reception and supply obligations shaped the sector. In response to persistent oversupply, authorities proposed limiting supply obligations in 2023 to facilitate new packaging plants and launched a review of new production regulation tools in 2024. Import volumes, which had remained below 35 tons annually through 2023, surged to 439 tons in 2024 and reached 550 tons in 2025, reflecting a shift in supply dynamics amid ongoing regulatory adjustments.
