Earlier Report Observations

The market for dried eggs in Norway expanded from 272 tons in 2018 to 318 tons in 2023. This growth was primarily fueled by a sharp rise in imports, which jumped from less than one ton annually before 2021 to over 20 tons in 2022 and 34 tons in 2023. Domestic production remained stable around 284-286 tons throughout the period, indicating that the increased market volume was met by foreign supply.

The import surge from 2022 onward coincided with increased demand for Norwegian egg products due to disease outbreaks in European poultry flocks and a favorable exchange rate for the Norwegian krone, making imports more attractive. Simultaneously, Norwegian hygiene regulations, which require liquid or concentrated egg products that are not shelf-stable to be dried or refrigerated, provided a direct stimulus for the dried egg segment. Earlier, in 2021, growing interest in long-term egg storage methods, including drying, signaled a shift in consumer and producer practices that preceded the market expansion.

Consumer trends in Norway favoring healthy, nutritious, and sustainable food choices continued to support demand for egg products. On the supply side, the market regulator Nortura implemented production adjustments in the egg sector to manage balance, while industry agreements focused on climate measures and sustainability in egg production, contributing to stable domestic output. The high level of imports persisted into 2024 and 2025, following the same drivers of demand and external market conditions.
