Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2020, the liquid egg market in Western Asia faced pressure from persistent overproduction of eggs and declining domestic demand, leading to falling prices and an industry crisis. During this period, investments were made in eight pasteurized liquid egg processing plants and three egg powder factories, laying the groundwork for future surplus conversion. By 2020, a sharp 79% increase in egg exports to 1 214 t diverted a significant portion of output away from the domestic market, which, coupled with a 35% drop in imports, reduced total market volume to 7 171 t.

The market began to recover from 2021 onwards, driven by increased investment in liquid egg and egg powder production aimed at export markets. Domestic production rose by 27% to 2 314 t, helping to push market volume to 8 196 t. A shift in consumer behavior toward packaged and higher-quality products also supported demand. In 2022, continued efforts to develop exports, including changes to sanitary standards and packaging rules to meet international requirements, helped maintain the market volume at 8 974 t.

By 2023, liquid egg production reached 2 281 t, a 10% increase from the previous year, supported by state aid in the form of financial facilities, land allocation, and advisory services for farms. Although the physical market volume edged down slightly to 8 768 t due to import and export fluctuations, its value grew by 21% to $31.1 million, driven by rising input and production costs. In 2024, the focus remained on improving product quality, developing export markets in the EU and West Asia, and adapting packaging and labeling regulations to meet international standards.
