Armenia's in-shell hazelnut market volume increased from 348.5 t in 2018 to 457.5 t in 2023, reflecting overall growth of 31% across the period. Domestic production rose from 342 t to 445.4 t, although both series experienced volatility, including a slight contraction in market size in 2020.

The most pronounced downturn came in 2022, with market volume falling 27% to 324.1 t and production dropping 17%. This coincided with global supply chain disruptions and geopolitical tensions that affected key hazelnut exporters like Türkiye and the United States, sharply reducing Armenia's import and export flows that year.

A robust recovery followed in 2023, as market volume jumped 41% to 457.5 t and production reached a record 445.4 t. Underlying global consumer demand for healthy snacks provided a foundation for the rebound after the preceding trade-related shock.

In 2020, Armenia produced 392.8 t of in-shell hazelnuts, marking a slight decline of 1.1% from the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production decreased by 12.3%, which translates to an annualized rate of 4.3%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 342.0 t. That year also saw the largest decline of 23.7%, while the biggest increase occurred in 2019 with a rise of 16.2%.
