From 2018 to 2019, the in-shell hazelnut market in Azerbaijan grew from 51 787 t to 53 177 t, supported by the introduction of state export incentives for shelled wild hazelnuts and the expansion of hazelnut orchard areas. The market volume then contracted to 48 455 t in 2020.

A strong rebound followed in 2021, with the market surging to 66 626 t. This jump was driven by a reported 36.6% increase in production compared to 2020, aided by government programs for new orchard development and plans for modern processing plants.

Moderate growth continued thereafter, with the market reaching 74 082 t in 2023. This was sustained by ongoing investments in the sector, the adoption of new technologies, and the opening of new export markets such as Kyrgyzstan and Saudi Arabia.

In 2021, Azerbaijan produced 67,630 tonnes of in-shell hazelnuts, marking a sharp increase of 36.7% compared to the previous year. Over the 2018-2021 period, production grew by 29.9%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.1%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2020 at 49,465 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 8.0%.
