Earlier Report Observations
From 2018 to 2020, hydrogen chloride production in Russia declined from 1 235 тыс. т to 1 190 тыс. т. The period saw major hydrogen producers focusing on internal consumption and the initial formation of state support for hydrogen energy. In 2021, production rebounded to 1 250 тыс. т, following the approval of the national Concept for Hydrogen Energy Development and the creation of the 'Technology Hydrogen Valley' consortium with participants like Gazprom Neft and SIBUR, which stimulated industrial activity.
Market volume rose to 1 266 тыс. т in 2022, driven by the commissioning of Russia's first hydrogen technology testing polygon on Sakhalin and active involvement of large state-owned companies in hydrogen projects. In 2023, the market stabilized at 1 239 тыс. т as the polygon became operational, coinciding with Gazprom Neft's plans to significantly increase hydrogen production. Growth resumed in 2024, reaching 1 254 тыс. т, supported by continued development of hydrogen clusters and infrastructure.
In 2025, hydrogen chloride production fell to 1 210 тыс. т, while the implementation of the national hydrogen energy strategy continued, emphasizing domestic market development and export-oriented expansion.
