Earlier Report Observations
The Russian honey market volume fluctuated between 61 and 64 thousand tons from 2018 to 2023. It declined to 61 thousand tons in 2019 due to a decrease in the number of bee colonies. However, volume recovered to 64 thousand tons in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic shifted consumer preferences towards natural products, and import substitution policies stimulated domestic production.
After a slight dip to 61 thousand tons in 2021, the market grew to 64 thousand tons in 2022 against the backdrop of Western sanctions, which fostered increased domestic production and exports to friendly countries such as China and EAEU states. In 2023, market volume again contracted to 61 thousand tons due to a further reduction in bee colonies. Throughout the period, state quality control via the "Mercury" and "VetIS" systems was strengthened, enhancing market transparency.
