Between 2018 and 2021, the Russian yoghurt market volume increased from 817 thousand tons to 828 thousand tons. This growth was supported by the introduction of new flavors and formats, such as Greek yoghurt and varieties with fruit additions, which broadened consumer appeal. Simultaneously, rising health awareness boosted demand for functional yoghurts containing probiotics and prebiotics, as well as low‑calorie options with natural ingredients.

In 2022, the market contracted sharply to 714 thousand tons, primarily due to geopolitical tensions and international sanctions. These disruptions affected the supply of raw materials and packaging, leading to a notable drop in production—for example, April 2022 output fell by 18.7% year‑on‑year. The sanctions also altered trade flows, further reducing overall market volume.

After the 2022 decline, the market began to recover, reaching 751 thousand tons in 2023 and 809 thousand tons in 2024. Production followed a similar path, rising to 743 thousand tons in 2023 and 798 thousand tons in 2024. By 2025, production stabilized at 789 thousand tons, indicating a gradual return toward pre‑shock levels.
