Earlier Report Observations

The Russian frozen crustaceans market expanded from 62.7 thousand tons in 2018 to 87.5 thousand tons by 2020. This growth was supported by the entry of new players and the expansion of production capacities, which boosted domestic output. In 2019, export restrictions to China redirected supply to the domestic market, further increasing availability.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 reduced exports and shifted consumer preferences toward convenient frozen products, sustaining domestic consumption. By 2021, market volume surged to 122.1 thousand tons, partly due to continued growth in sales of frozen ready meals and state policies promoting import substitution. However, in 2022, the introduction of sanctions and import restrictions caused logistical disruptions and higher costs, leading to a market decline to 104.6 thousand tons.

In 2023, the market stabilized at 105.9 thousand tons. A sharp rebound occurred in 2024, with volume reaching 164.7 thousand tons.
