The Hungarian market for gypsum, anhydrite and limestone underwent a major expansion in physical volume from 2022 onward. The total market size grew from 3 094 thousand tons in 2022 to 8 745 thousand tons in 2024, reflecting a very strong upward trajectory.

This expansion was powered by a steep rise in domestic production, which more than doubled from 2 991 thousand tons in 2022 to 8 682 thousand tons in 2024. During the same phase, import volumes receded after a peak in 2022, declining from 104 thousand tons to 64 thousand tons by 2024.

In the preceding years from 2018 to 2021, import volumes had shown consistent growth, signaling increasing demand that was later met by the surge in local output. By 2024, the market's supply structure had shifted decisively toward domestic production.
