This expansion was driven by increased construction activity, particularly in road and railway projects, which boosted demand for aggregates. Market leader KK Kavics Beton Kft. supported this growth through continuous product innovation and a wide range of offerings.

In 2020, market volume fell to 31.7 million tons ($191.7 million) as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global supply chains, affecting imports of raw materials and elevating production costs. Energy price volatility and currency fluctuations further pressured the market, leading to reduced import volumes and higher prices for finished products.

By 2021, the market stabilized at 31.7 million tons in volume but saw a recovery in value to $215.5 million. Construction activity resumed strongly in Hungary, renewing demand for aggregates in infrastructure projects. However, persistently high raw material and logistics costs limited volume growth, resulting in a market where value increased despite flat physical consumption.
