The grape wine market in Kazakhstan peaked at 70 012 thousand liters in 2018, following the introduction of new alcohol regulations at the start of the year. A combination of currency volatility and tighter controls contributed to a market contraction to 62 210 thousand liters in 2019. Despite age restrictions and the COVID-19 pandemic, the market recovered slightly to 63 955 thousand liters in 2020 as authorities cracked down on illegal alcohol trade.

A severe downturn hit the market in 2021, with volume plunging to 46 810 thousand liters and production dropping by over 46%. The following year saw a rebound, as natural grape wine production grew by 14.9% during January-October, lifting annual output by 11.4% and market size to 48 114 thousand liters. This recovery was underpinned by updated labeling rules effective from April 2022 and government support for the sector.

By 2023, the market had fallen further to 41 040 thousand liters, with imports declining by 31.3% amid stricter labeling requirements introduced in November 2023 and anticipated changes scheduled for March 2024. New regulations on wine labeling and retail sales took effect from March 1, 2024, aiming to enhance market transparency.
