From 2018 to 2023, the goat meat market in the Democratic Republic of the Congo experienced a significant contraction in 2019 followed by a recovery and subsequent gradual decline. Market volume dropped by nearly 11% in 2019 to 16 622 tons, but rebounded sharply the following year to 18 640 tons, close to the 2018 level of 18 604 tons.

After the rebound, the market entered a phase of mild contraction, decreasing to 18 552 tons in 2022 and further to 18 323 tons in 2023. Domestic production, which constitutes almost the entire market given negligible imports and no exports, followed a similar trajectory, falling to 16 602 tons in 2019 before stabilizing around 18 500 tons.
