Mexico's garlic production grew for the second consecutive year. In 2021, the country produced 89 792 tonnes of garlic, a 3.6% increase from 2020. Over the 2018-2021 period, production declined by 5.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of 1.8%. The lowest production was recorded in 2019 at 82 910 tonnes, which represented the largest decline of 12.4%. The most significant increase occurred in 2020, with a 4.6% rise.

Mexico's garlic exports expanded for the third year in a row. In 2021, exports reached 18 058 tonnes, surging by 115.8% compared to the previous year. From 2018 to 2021, exports grew by 257.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of 53.0%.

Over the 2018-2021 period, imports increased by 26.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.3%. The peak was recorded in 2020 at 21 479 tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 45.9%.

Following a two-year increase, Mexico's garlic import value fell. In 2021, imports totaled 35 143 thousand US dollars, marking a significant 20.1% decline from 2020. From 2018 to 2021, import value rose by 30%, equating to an annualized rate of 9.1%. The highest value was recorded in 2020 at 43 981 thousand US dollars, which also experienced the largest increase of 58.0%.
