Earlier Report Observations

The Turkish fresh grapes market volume grew from 3.8 million tons in 2018 to 4.0 million tons in 2020. This expansion was supported by the government-backed TARSIM crop insurance scheme, which covered up to 67% of premiums and reduced production risks for growers. Additionally, the industry's continued use of grapes as raw material for processed products like juice, wine, and vinegar helped sustain overall demand.

Market volume dropped sharply to 3.4 million tons in 2021 as post-pandemic trade missions to the Netherlands and Belgium accelerated fresh grape exports, reducing domestic availability. A rebound to 3.9 million tons followed in 2022 after the President announced guaranteed purchase prices for seedless grapes, encouraging higher production. That year, the Ministry of Agriculture also tightened pesticide residue controls to recapture packaged-product market share, improving both output and market confidence.

In 2023, the market contracted again to 3.3 million tons, closing the period with heightened volatility largely driven by shifting export strategies and state-led price interventions.
