Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the fresh grapes market volume in South America declined from 6.8 million tonnes to 5.8 million tonnes. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 disrupted global supply chains, which was the primary cause of the sharp drop that year.

In 2021, the market recovered to 6.8 million tonnes. Unfavorable climatic conditions in competing countries boosted production in Peru, contributing to higher domestic consumption. Additionally, new investments in cold storage infrastructure in the United States improved logistics for exports from the region.

By 2022, market volume fell to 5.9 million tonnes as exports increased due to Peru consolidating its position as the world's leading exporter and continued enhancements in cold chain logistics. In 2023, production in Peru rose by 5.6%, leading to a market volume increase to 6.1 million tonnes.
