The fresh grapes market volume in the Caribbean grew from 33 887 t in 2018 to 40 361 t in 2020. Significant investments in research and development for improved grape varieties and cultivation techniques in 2018 later contributed to production rising to 24 000 t in 2020, while imports increased from 13 755 t to 16 428 t over the same period.

After a slight decline to 39 978 t in 2021 and 38 403 t in 2022, the market volume recovered to 41 719 t in 2023. This growth was driven by increasing health consciousness and demand for organic products, as well as technological advancements in agriculture that improved production efficiency. Imports surged to 22 340 t in 2023, offsetting a drop in domestic production to 19 393 t.

After a two-year decline, fresh grape production in the Caribbean rebounded. In 2020, the region produced 24 000 tons of fresh grapes, marking a 23.1% increase from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 18.3%, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.8%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 19 502 tons, which also saw the largest decline of 3.2%.

The market showed significant volatility during these years. Exports reached their lowest point in 2018 at 16 tons, with the largest decline of 42.0% occurring that year. By 2020, fresh grape exports from the Caribbean surged to 67 tons, representing a 259.3% increase from the previous year. The fluctuation between the peak in 2020 and the trough in 2018 was 4.2-fold.

The market displayed an unstable trend throughout this period. Exports in value terms hit their lowest point in 2019 at 57 thousand US dollars, with the largest decline of 30.8% recorded that year. In 2020, Caribbean fresh grape exports rose to 148 thousand US dollars, a sharp increase of 159.4% compared to 2019. The shift from the minimum in 2019 to the maximum in 2020 represented a 2.6-fold change.

Fresh grape imports into the Caribbean increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, imports reached 16 428 tons, up 6.5% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports grew by 14.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.7%. The lowest import volume was recorded in 2018 at 13 755 tons, which also saw the largest decline of 3.8%. The largest increase occurred in 2019 at 12.1%.
