The market volume for extracts and juices of meat, fish and aquatic invertebrates in the Netherlands contracted sharply from 1.3 million t in 2018 to 309.7 thousand t in 2023. This represents a decline of over 75% across the five-year period, with the most pronounced drop occurring between 2018 and 2019.

This market contraction was driven primarily by a steep fall in imports, which decreased from 926.5 thousand t to 294.7 thousand t, alongside a steady rise in exports from 458.7 thousand t to 778.5 thousand t. Domestic production remained relatively stable, declining only modestly from 831.9 thousand t to 793.4 thousand t over the same timeframe.

By 2024, export volumes had surged further to 1.1 million t, while imports continued to trend downward, suggesting that the Dutch market for these products has become increasingly export-oriented with a smaller domestic consumption base.

From 2017 to 2020, the United States, France, and Switzerland were the top buyers of extracts and juices of meat, fish, and aquatic invertebrates from the Netherlands. The United States accounted for 31.8% of exports in volume, France for 26.3%, and Switzerland for 9.8%. Together, these three countries represented 67.9% of total exports in volume.
