This period was characterized by rising imports and exports, with export volume reaching 128.3 thousand tons by 2020.

From 2021 onwards, export volumes continued their upward trajectory, peaking at 145.3 thousand tons in 2025. Import volumes fluctuated during these years, dipping to 33.1 thousand tons in 2022 before recovering. The sustained export growth in 2025 coincided with favorable weather conditions, including optimal flowering periods, which typically support higher nut and seed yields and thus available supply for export. Furthermore, evolving consumer preferences towards sustainable and healthy products, including organic options, have shaped market dynamics.

From 2018 to 2021, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom were the largest buyers of prepared or preserved nuts and seeds from the Netherlands. France accounted for 27.0% of exports in kind, Germany for 21.9%, and the United Kingdom for 11.4%. Together, these three countries formed 60.4% of total exports in kind.
