Earlier Report Observations

The market for dried shelled peas in Eastern Africa recorded a volume of 605.2 thousand tons in 2018. That year was marked by the entry of a new digital player, Africa Sokoni, an online marketplace launched to connect African customers and retailers, which facilitated e-commerce in Kenya and the wider region, potentially improving market access and distribution channels for agricultural products.

After a slight dip to 592.2 thousand tons in 2019, market volume surged significantly to 686.2 thousand tons in 2020. It then stabilized near a peak of 690.8 thousand tons in 2021, followed by a correction to 651.9 thousand tons in 2022 and a modest recovery to 657.0 thousand tons in 2023, resulting in a net growth over the five-year period.
