This drop coincided with a steep fall in domestic production from 26 632 t to 6 584 t and a reduction in imports from 12 675 t to 2 707 t over the same period.

Following the low point in 2020, the market stabilized and showed modest recovery, reaching 10 198 t by 2023. Domestic production rebounded to 9 090 t, while import volumes remained volatile but below pre-contraction levels.

Exports of dried shelled peas from Azerbaijan have dropped for the third consecutive year. In 2021, export volumes reached 62 tonnes, marking a sharp reduction of 75.9% from the previous year. Over the 2018-2021 period, exports decreased by 93.6%, with an average annual decline of 60.0%.

From 2018 to 2021, Russia and Turkey were the main destinations for Azerbaijan's dried shelled pea exports, together accounting for 98.7% of total shipments. The remaining volume was distributed among smaller markets.

Azerbaijan's dried shelled pea exports have declined in value for the third year running. In 2021, export value stood at 49 thousand US dollars, which is 60.5% lower than the year before. Over the 2018-2021 period, exports fell by 91.9%, with an average annual decrease of 56.7%.

After two years of decline, Azerbaijan's imports of dried shelled peas increased in 2021. Import volumes reached 4 280 tonnes, showing a significant gain of 58.1% compared to the previous year. Over the 2018-2021 period, imports decreased by 66.2%, with an average annual decline of 30.4%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2020 at 2 707 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 59.2%.

The total import value was 1 051 thousand US dollars, reflecting a dramatic increase of 30.6% from the previous year. Over the 2018-2021 period, imports decreased by 60.5%, with an average annual decline of 26.6%. The minimum value was recorded in 2020 at 805 thousand US dollars, which also experienced the largest drop of 48.0%.
