Domestic production of dried grapes declined after 2020, while imports rose substantially, particularly in 2024. The initial growth in 2020 coincided with a delayed grape harvest and the announcement of a state commercialization subsidy, albeit postponed until 2022, which may have affected grape availability for drying. Additionally, the Urechești market offered producers better prices, potentially stimulating local supply.

Weather conditions played a significant role in subsequent years. In 2022, drought and excessive heat led to an earlier harvest and quality issues like mold, reducing domestic output. The following year, 2023, saw an earlier harvest due to meteorological conditions, but grape quality was good, supporting superior wine production—though dried grape production continued to fall. The postponed state subsidy continued to influence market expectations during this period.

In 2024, the market volume surged sharply, driven by a significant increase in imports. This growth was facilitated by the expansion of online agro-food trading platforms that enhanced both domestic and international trade access. Concurrently, the harvest began earlier due to high temperatures, and estimated production in the Dealu Mare region dropped to about 60% of the previous year's level, further necessitating imports to meet demand.

After two years of growth, Romania's dried grape exports declined. In 2019, shipments peaked at 59 t, marking an 18.6% increase. However, by 2020, exports fell to 32 t, a sharp 46.2% drop from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports decreased by 31.3%, with an annualized rate of 11.8%.

Following two years of gains, Romania's dried grape exports in value terms declined. In 2019, exports reached a high of 125 K $ US, up 14.5%. By 2020, this dropped to 93 K $ US, a 25.9% decrease from 2019. Overall, exports fell by 10% between 2017 and 2020, with an annualized rate of 3.5%.
