Earlier Report Observations

The market volume of dried grapes in India grew from 30 771 t in 2018 to 44 069 t in 2021. This expansion was supported by the spread of drip irrigation in water-stressed districts, which boosted horticulture production including grapes, and the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme that modernized small-scale processing units. By 2021, grape production in India had reached 3.7 million tonnes, ensuring ample raw material for drying.

From 2022, the market volume fell to 36 119 t and then to 27 576 t in 2023. This decline coincided with a sharp rise in grape exports, which reached 267 thousand tonnes in 2022-23 and grew over 10% in 2023-24 due to strong European demand. The grape cluster development program in Nashik, launched by DeHaat and the National Horticulture Board, improved quality and export readiness, diverting more production abroad and reducing domestic availability.

In 2024, regulatory changes such as the FSSAI's amended labeling rules requiring larger font for nutritional information were introduced, while grape acreage hit a record high, reflecting continued investment in the sector.
