Earlier Report Observations

The dried egg market in South-eastern Asia began the period at 7,168 t in 2018 but fell to 5,967 t in 2019. This contraction coincided with Malaysia's move to consider limiting egg exports to ensure domestic supply, which tightened regional availability and increased prices. Rising poultry feed costs from global supply chain disruptions in 2020 continued to pressure the market, though government subsidies in Malaysia helped stabilize conditions, allowing the market volume to recover to 7,029 t that year.

Market size grew further to 7,547 t in 2021 despite reports that egg supplies in Malaysia remained 15% below 2019 levels due to the culling of older birds. The following year, the Ukraine war drove up feed and logistics costs globally, contributing to a slight market dip to 7,397 t in 2022. In 2023, avian flu outbreaks in the region caused significant supply shortages, reducing the overall market to 6,995 t. This occurred even as local production jumped sharply to 1,830 t, supported by new capacity investments such as the Japanese egg producer's project to build a major farm in Singapore.

By 2024, import volumes of dried eggs rose to 6,021 t. Market dynamics included Singapore approving new supply sources from countries like Portugal and Poland to diversify imports, while Malaysia removed its longstanding egg subsidies, leading to price adjustments in the region.
