In 2023, production fell to 447.1 thousand tons and the market volume dropped to 451.8 thousand tons. That year saw significant industry developments, including the introduction of cultivated smoked duck breast meat in Asia by Singapore-based Meatiply, marking the emergence of new product segments. Major investments in automation, such as Maple Leaf Farms' robotic chilling systems, highlighted ongoing technological upgrades within supply chains.

By 2024, import volumes jumped to 42.9 thousand tons, a change facilitated by regulatory shifts like India's reduction of basic customs duty on frozen duck meat from 30% to 5% in March 2024. At the same time, Vietnam's Huaying Agricultural completed a $60 million expansion to scale up processing capacity for regional exports, supporting greater trade flows.

Duck meat and offal production in South-eastern Asia grew for the second year in a row. In 2020, the region produced 459.1 thousand tonnes, marking a moderate 3.1% increase from the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production fell by 5.1%, with an average annual growth rate of 1.7%. The lowest production level was in 2018 at 407.8 thousand tonnes, which saw the largest decline of 15.7%. In contrast, 2019 recorded the biggest increase at 9.2%.

The market exhibited significant volatility during these years. Exports reached their lowest point in 2019 at 3,241 tonnes, with the largest decline of 40.5% that year. By 2020, exports surged to 8,301 tonnes, representing a sharp 156.1% rise from 2019 and the highest level in the period, resulting in a 2.6-fold difference between the peak in 2020 and the trough in 2019.

From 2017 to 2020, Japan, Hong Kong, and China were the primary destinations for duck meat and offal exports from South-eastern Asia. Japan accounted for 56.5% of exports in volume, Hong Kong for 7.8%, and China for 5.1%, together making up 69.4% of total exports.

The market showed signs of volatility over the observed period. Exports in value terms hit their lowest point in 2019 at 15,680 thousand US dollars, with the largest decline of 44.4% that year. In 2020, exports rose to 28,756 thousand US dollars, an 83.4% increase from 2019 and the peak level, creating a top-to-bottom ratio of 1.8 times between 2020 and 2019.
