The market volume for dried apricots in Pakistan expanded significantly from 4 000 t in 2018 to 19 721 t in 2023. This nearly fivefold growth was primarily supported by a sharp increase in imports, which rose from 386 t to 15 437 t over the same period, becoming the dominant component of supply.

Domestic production fluctuated during these years, reaching a peak of 6 966 t in 2022 before decreasing to 4 590 t in 2023. Exports remained at a relatively low and stable level, typically between 200 t and 500 t annually, and therefore had a minor influence on the total market size.

After a two-year decline, Pakistan's dried apricot production rebounded in 2020. That year, the country produced 4 176 tonnes of dried apricots, marking a 24.4% year-on-year increase. However, over the full 2017-2020 period, production fell by 10.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of -3.6%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 3 357 tonnes, which also saw the largest annual decline of 16.1%.

The market exhibited significant volatility during the observed period. Export volumes reached their lowest point in 2017 and peaked in 2019, with a 2.5-fold difference between these years. In 2020, Pakistan exported 367 tonnes of dried apricots, representing a 24.7% decrease compared to the previous year. The highest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 487 tonnes, while the largest annual increase occurred in 2018 at 120.3%.

From 2017 to 2020, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and the United Kingdom were the primary markets for Pakistan's dried apricot exports by volume. Vietnam accounted for 27.7% of exports, Bangladesh for 17.0%, and the United Kingdom for 11.8%. Together, these three countries represented 56.4% of total export flows.
