The market volume for currants and gooseberries in Uzbekistan showed steady growth from 1 641 tonnes in 2018 to 1 715 tonnes in 2021. During this period, scientists from the Research Institute of Horticulture, Viticulture and Winemaking initiated work on developing new currant varieties, aiming to enhance the berry sector's long-term potential.

In 2022, the market contracted to 1 624 tonnes. This decrease coincided with reduced demand from neighboring countries, where juice producers and home canning activities cut back their purchases of currants and gooseberries, affecting export opportunities.

The market rebounded to 1 701 tonnes in 2023, driven by the expansion of e-commerce in Uzbekistan, which improved sales channels for agricultural products including berries. In 2024, further sector developments included plans for intensive orchard plantings and the introduction of new currant and strawberry varieties.
