The market volume for fresh cucumbers and gherkins in Armenia experienced a notable contraction in 2019, falling to 36 831 t, before entering a period of sustained expansion. By 2023, the market had grown to 70 457 t, significantly exceeding its 2018 level of 49 327 t. This growth was supported by a strong recovery in domestic production, which rose from 43 231 t in 2020 to 69 351 t in 2023.

Imports played an increasingly important role, rising steadily from 592 t in 2018 to 2 853 t by 2022. Export volumes were volatile, peaking at 8 905 t in 2019 before declining sharply, which increased the volume of produce available for domestic consumption in subsequent years.

Armenia's production of cucumbers and gherkins has declined for the third year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 43 231 tonnes, marking a slight year-over-year decrease of 2.1%. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 41.8%, which translates to an average annual decline of 16.5%.

The market showed significant fluctuations during this period. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2017, while the highest occurred in 2019, with a peak-to-trough ratio of 20 times. From 2017 to 2020, Russia was the nearly exclusive buyer of Armenian cucumbers and gherkins, accounting for 95.9% of total exports in volume.
