Between 2018 and 2020, the Estonian market for cotton bed linen expanded gradually, reaching 781 tonnes in 2020. However, in 2021 consumption contracted sharply to 566 tonnes, a drop of over 27% from the previous year.

The market rebounded strongly in 2022, with volume climbing back to 733 tonnes. This recovery coincided with a noted shift in consumer preferences toward bed linen with high cotton content and superior quality, which increased demand for premium products. Additionally, the implementation of EU Directive 2022/1616 on single-use plastic packaging introduced new labeling requirements for items sold with disposable packaging, affecting market practices.

After the rebound, market volume stabilized near 736 tonnes in 2023 and edged down to 709 tonnes in 2024, indicating a mature phase with moderate fluctuations.

In contrast, the largest increase was recorded in 2019 at 2.0%.

The largest increase occurred in 2020 at 14.4%.

From 2018 to 2021, Sweden, Finland, and Norway remained the primary buyers of cotton bed linen from Estonia, accounting for 42.0%, 18.7%, and 10.8% of exports in kind, respectively. Together, they represented 71.4% of total exports in kind.
