Coconut oilcake production in Mozambique began at 16 778 t in 2018, supported by the entry of Conut Organics, which introduced exclusive bioremediation technology using coconut waste, enhancing residue utilization. Output grew to 17 200 t in 2019 as rising consumer awareness of coconut oil benefits expanded the local market, increasing oil extraction and consequently boosting oilcake production as a by-product.

Production fell to 15 400 t in 2020, a year that saw a legislative proposal to suspend imports of coconut derivatives, including solid residues, aimed at protecting domestic processors. This period also emphasized initiatives for sustainable coconut shell reuse. Output held at 15 400 t in 2021, reinforced by broader environmental waste management policies that encouraged recycling of organic residues like oilcake.

From 2022 to 2023, production stabilized at 15 100 t annually. Continued waste management policies and shifting consumer preferences toward natural products supported the market, while exports of oilcake grew consistently, reaching 1 937 t in 2023.
