Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2023, the market volume for chicken meat and offal in Tajikistan grew by over 36%, reaching 44 965 t. This expansion was primarily fueled by a fivefold increase in domestic production, which rose from 7 135 t to 42 200 t, as the government pursued a consistent import substitution strategy.

A key driver was the state-owned enterprise Ptitseprom, which received tax and customs benefits starting in 2020, enabling the expansion of poultry farms. The temporary ban on chicken egg imports introduced in 2020 further stimulated demand for local meat production. Over the following years, the number of poultry farms increased under a state program, and in 2024, the construction of the largest poultry farm in Central Asia was completed, supported by duty-free imports of feed and equipment.

While production surged, imports fell sharply from 25 964 t in 2018 to 2 765 t in 2023, reflecting the success of import substitution. However, rising feed and logistics costs exerted pressure on production expenses, leading to price increases that the government attempted to control through price measures.
