This expansion was supported by supply chain enhancements, such as the opening of a 25-ton cold storage facility in 2018, which increased the availability of ready-to-eat chicken. In 2021, a partnership between National Poultry and the Americana Group aimed at developing local production and supplying fresh, high-quality products further stimulated the market.

Market volume dipped to 3.5 million tons in 2022 but recovered to 3.7 million tons in 2023. The production increase in 2023 was driven by higher output in Morocco, reaching 653 thousand tons, and lower feed prices in Egypt, which supported a rise in daily production to 4 million chickens.

In 2024, price caps on chicken in Tunisia, feed price volatility, and avian influenza outbreaks in South Africa pressured the sector, while rising health awareness and Saudi Arabia's goal of 80% self-sufficiency in chicken meat by 2025 shaped the regional landscape.

Chicken meat and offal production in Northern Africa has grown for the third year in a row. In 2020, the region produced 3,413 thousand tonnes, marking a significant 17.8% increase compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production rose by 34.1%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 10.3%.

After declining for two years, Northern Africa's exports of chicken meat and offal saw a modest uptick. In 2020, export volumes reached 2.1 thousand tonnes, showing a slight 1.1% rise from the year before. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports fell by 53%, averaging an annual decrease of 22.3%. The lowest point was in 2019, with exports at 2.1 thousand tonnes, and the sharpest drop occurred that same year, at 38.0%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main destinations for Northern Africa's chicken meat and offal exports were Vietnam, Liberia, and Gabon. Vietnam accounted for 39.1% of exports by volume, Liberia for 8.5%, and Gabon for 4.8%. Together, these three countries made up 52.4% of total export flows.

The value of chicken meat and offal exports from Northern Africa fell for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports totaled 2.9 million US dollars, down 17.5% year-over-year. Between 2017 and 2020, export values dropped by 31.6%, with an average annual decline of 11.9%. The peak was in 2018 at 4.5 million US dollars, while the largest decrease happened in 2019 at 21.9%. In contrast, 2018 saw the biggest increase, at 6.1%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Northern Africa's chicken meat and offal exports in value terms were spread across many markets. Vietnam led with 29.5% of the total value, followed by Qatar at 6.7% and Gabon at 4.1%. Combined, these three countries represented 40.3% of all export flows.
