Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the fresh cherry market in Uzbekistan expanded steadily, with volume rising from 194 800 t to 224 200 t. This growth was supported by increased export opportunities to EAEU countries, which stimulated industry development, and the country's observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union from 2019, improving trade relations. The simultaneous reduction of cherry supplies from Kazakhstan and Belarus to the Russian market boosted demand for Uzbek produce. Although exports rose in 2020, the ongoing adoption of intensive orchards helped lift production, keeping the domestic market stable.

A significant surge occurred in 2021, with market volume jumping to 269 200 t. This was primarily driven by substantial investments in the agro-industrial complex and the introduction of new cherry varieties, which sharply increased production. As exports fell that year, more fruit remained available domestically. The market then stabilized in 2022 at 271 200 t, influenced by global weather conditions that created a worldwide cherry shortage, raising external demand and supporting export levels.

In 2023, market volume declined to 254 400 t despite continued production growth. This drop was caused by a sharp rise in exports, which reached 51 000 t, as high international demand—fueled by the persistent global deficit—drew more Uzbek cherries abroad. Internal demand and wholesale prices also increased during the period, but the export pull was the dominant factor reducing domestic supply.
