Between 2018 and 2019, the volume of the fresh cherry market in Syria increased from 58 545 t to 62 213 t. A sharp contraction followed in 2020, reducing the market to 36 201 t, which was 42% lower than the previous year.

The market began to recover in 2021, reaching 40 270 t, and then expanded significantly to 67 943 t in 2022. This growth continued into 2023, with the market volume rising to 71 218 t.

In 2024, the Syrian Economic Committee proposed measures to facilitate agricultural exports, such as extending payment terms for fruit exports to 60 days and improving cold transport logistics. Support programs for farmers, including compensation for weather-related losses and fuel for modern irrigation, were also implemented, alongside the establishment of a market monitoring office in Damascus.
