Cassava production in Togo grew consistently from 1.1 million tons in 2018 to 1.2 million tons in 2023. This expansion was initially supported by the crop's established role as the country's primary root and tuber. From 2020, the government's preparation of a dedicated investment plan for the roots and tubers sector, active support for installing modern processing units, and the introduction of climate-smart varieties by the Togolese Agricultural Research Institute (ITRA) provided direct drivers for increased output.

The growth continued in 2021 as production reached 1.2 million tons, aided by state-backed modernization initiatives and farmer training through the Fresh Cassava Innovation Platform. In 2022 and 2023, the ongoing implementation of the investment plan, alongside field trials of new, higher-yielding cassava varieties conducted by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), systematically improved productivity, sustaining the rise in market volume.

Togo's cassava production has increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 1 158 K t of cassava, marking a gradual 3.6% rise compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, production grew by 11.2%, which translates to an annualized growth rate of 3.6%.

Following a two-year decline, Togo's cassava production value rebounded. In 2020, cassava output was valued at 352.9 M $ US, showing a modest 2.9% increase from the previous year. However, between 2017 and 2020, production value decreased by 10.7%, with an annualized decline of 3.7%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 343.1 M $ US, which also saw the largest drop of 8.5%.

After two years of growth, cassava exports from Togo fell. In 2020, exports stood at 704.0 t, representing a sharp 27.3% decrease year-over-year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports increased by 28.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.8%. The peak was in 2019 at 968.9 t, which also experienced the largest rise of 34.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main markets for Togo's cassava exports in kind were Canada (46.1% of exports), the Netherlands (31.8% of exports), and the United States (7.4% of exports). Together, these three countries accounted for 85.3% of total export flows.

Following a two-year upward trend, Togo's cassava exports in value terms declined. In 2020, exports reached 214.5 K $ US, showing a steep 27.8% drop compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports increased by 3.5%, with an annualized growth rate of 1.2%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 297.3 K $ US, which also saw the largest increase of 19.9%.
