The Senegalese cassava market expanded significantly from 2018 to 2020, with volume rising from 760 thousand tons to 1 346 thousand tons. This growth was initiated by the government's establishment of a dedicated Horticulture Directorate within the Ministry of Agriculture in 2018, which promoted diversified production of vegetables and tubers like cassava. Continued state projects in 2019 aimed at enhancing cassava processing for food security further drove production upward, overcoming the variability introduced by unfavorable weather events in 2020.

Market volume stabilized around 1 329-1 323 thousand tons between 2021 and 2022. The adoption of a consumer protection and price regulation law in 2021 provided a framework for agricultural product prices, contributing to this period of equilibrium. Subsequently, ongoing efforts to improve cassava processing and conservation, coupled with reported price stability for cereals and tubers, supported a recovery. By 2023, the market grew to 1 389 thousand tons, aided by sustained policy support for the horticulture and tuber sectors.

In 2024, the government announced new consumer price control measures, including setting price ceilings for certain products. These regulatory actions coincided with reports of a 5% increase in cassava production for the 2023/2024 season, indicating a continued positive trend underpinned by national agricultural policies and focus on value-added products.
