The casein market in Kazakhstan expanded significantly between 2018 and 2023, with overall volume growing from 1 772 t to 2 499 t, an increase of over 40%. This growth was not linear, however, as the market experienced a temporary contraction in 2021 and 2022 before a strong recovery in the final year.

A defining trend was the steep decline in imports, which dropped from 382 t in 2018 to just 10 t in 2022. This was offset by a steady rise in domestic production, which increased from 1 390 t to 2 478 t over the same period, effectively replacing the lost foreign supply.

By 2023, the market reached its highest level at 2 499 t, entirely fueled by local output, as imports remained negligible at 23 t. Production that year also hit a record 2 478 t, confirming the market's shift towards self-sufficiency.
