Earlier Report Observations

In 2018, production of bran and residues reached 1,523 thousand tons, supported by the entry of new small enterprises specializing in processing waste into feed and biofuels, along with state subsidies for the agricultural sector. The following year, output fell to 1,275 thousand tons as updated food and feed safety standards required operational adjustments, while the introduction of EU export quotas influenced trade patterns.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains in 2020, reducing production to 1,234 thousand tons; temporary simplifications in certification procedures helped maintain some export activity. Investment in modernizing production facilities and the arrival of startups with innovative products drove a recovery in 2021, pushing output to 1,401 thousand tons and market volume to 916 thousand tons.

From 2022, the military conflict in Ukraine severely hampered production, which dropped to 1,182 thousand tons that year and to 1,046 thousand tons in 2023. State companies were involved in market stabilization, and new rules controlling the export and import of agricultural products further affected trade, contributing to a decline in market volume to 700 thousand tons by 2023.
