Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2020, the market volume for starch-manufacture residues in Ukraine declined from 149.5 thousand tons to 114.4 thousand tons. This period began with a legislative clarification in 2018 that refined the commodity categories for these residues, which may have affected market reporting. Production levels remained relatively stable, but increased exports contributed to the reduction in domestic market volume.

The market surged to 190.8 thousand tons in 2021, driven by a sharp increase in production to over 302 thousand tons. This growth was followed by a significant contraction, with the market falling to 127.5 thousand tons in 2022 and then to 72.1 thousand tons in 2023. During this downturn, the industry saw announced plans for a new starch production facility at the Dniprovskyi Starch Plant in 2022, indicating long-term investment in the sector. Concurrently, a broader national trend toward waste recycling development emerged, potentially influencing the demand for starch residues as raw material.
