Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2023, Gabon's production of bran and cereal residues fluctuated between 21 000 and 27 500 metric tons. The initial output of 24 191 metric tons in 2018 was bolstered by state food‑security measures, including a plan by the Gabon Food Security Agency (AGASA) to reduce cereal imports by at least 5% per year and to maximize domestic production in response to international price volatility, directly supporting the generation of processing residues.

After a decline to around 21 000 metric tons in 2019‑2020, production jumped to 27 544 metric tons in 2021, raising domestic market volume to 20 385 metric tons. However, export shipments varied sharply, peaking at 14 868 metric tons in 2023, which pulled down the internal market to 11 073 metric tons. That same year, the introduction of a strict industrial waste valorization policy, aimed at better utilization of agricultural residues, helped maintain production levels despite the high export volume.
