Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2019, the beef and buffalo meat market in Jordan expanded, with volume rising to 76 054 tons. This growth was supported by the consistent availability of imported meat in quantities that met domestic demand. The market then contracted in 2020 to 67 215 tons as weak consumer demand during the COVID-19 pandemic reduced overall consumption.

A slight recovery followed in 2021, with volume reaching 68 268 tons after livestock markets reopened following a previous ban, improving supply conditions. The market grew again in 2022 to 72 906 tons. This occurred despite a suspension of veal imports from three countries due to mad cow disease, as existing market surpluses prevented a shortage.

In 2023, the market volume declined to 65 428 tons. Imported meat remained available to meet demand, but a decrease in domestic production contributed to the overall lower volume.
