The market volume for fresh beans in Jordan experienced considerable volatility from 2018 to 2023, falling from 11 845 t to 6 433 t in 2019 before recovering to 11 057 t by the end of the period. The rebound beginning in 2020 was partly driven by heightened consumer demand for healthy foods during the COVID-19 pandemic, which supported local production. Concurrently, the implementation of post-harvest standard operating procedures and new directives to minimize transport delays helped reduce losses and improve supply chain efficiency, contributing to the market's recovery.

Regulatory and infrastructural reforms modernized the sector and facilitated growth. The 2018 launch of the Jordanian Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Market Platform improved export management for green beans, while a 2021 amendment to the temporary agriculture law stimulated private investment in new packing and cooling facilities, bringing new players into the market. The subsequent roll-out of a government e-track system for quality monitoring and a color-coded quality grading scheme enhanced transparency, encouraged sustainable farming practices, and helped align products with international standards.

National policy initiatives provided a clear framework for expansion. The Jordan National Food Security Strategy 2021-2030, with its explicit target to boost domestic bean production, reinforced investments in cold-chain infrastructure. Jordan's bean production rebounded after a two-year decline. In 2020, the country produced 8,922 tonnes of beans, marking a significant 22.0% increase compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production decreased by 32%, with a compound annual growth rate of -12.1%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 7,316 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 42.1%.

After rising for two consecutive years, Jordan's bean exports declined. In 2020, exports stood at 604.5 tonnes, representing a sharp 31.6% decrease from 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, exports fell by 20.5%, equivalent to an annualized rate of -7.4%. The peak export volume was reached in 2019 at 883.2 tonnes, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 at 10.8%.

From 2017 to 2020, Jordan's bean exports were highly concentrated, with Kuwait and Bahrain together accounting for 80.0% of total export volumes. Other trading partners represented only a small fraction of the overall flows.

Jordan's bean exports in value terms increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country exported beans worth $1,524,000, which is 11.3% higher than the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, export value grew by 17.6%, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.5%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at $1,203,000, which also saw the largest decline of 7.2%. The most significant increase occurred in 2019 at 13.8%.
