The market for fresh beans in Indonesia expanded from 903 thousand tons in 2018 to 930 thousand tons in 2019, supported by dynamic food price movements and the active role of state-owned companies in the export of fresh soybeans. Market volume then stabilized around 915 thousand tons in 2020 and 2021, with a strengthening trend in food consumption emerging in 2021.

A significant surge to 950 thousand tons occurred in 2022, driven by the implementation of National Food Agency Regulation No. 14/2022 aimed at stabilizing supply and prices, alongside rising consumer awareness of healthy lifestyles and a shift toward plant-based foods. However, the market contracted to 927 thousand tons in 2023, partly due to challenges in cold chain distribution that affected the quality and availability of fresh beans.

In subsequent years, regulatory focus remained on supply stabilization and logistics improvement, while consumer preferences continued to favor healthy and processed plant-based products, fostering innovation such as soy milk alternatives.
