The almond market in Greece exhibited notable shifts between 2018 and 2023. Initially, the market volume reached 32 461 tonnes in 2018, supported by rising health awareness and growing interest in almond cultivation, including new plantings in regions like Thessaly. However, in 2019, volume fell to 28 509 tonnes as the rapid, unplanned shift of farmers into almond growing created production disruptions.

The market recovered to 35 420 tonnes in 2020, driven by increasing consumer demand for healthy almond-based products. A frost event in March 2021 damaged almond blossoms in key areas, contributing to a slight contraction to 34 395 tonnes that year. Despite this, the ongoing expansion of almond orchards, with earlier plantings maturing, facilitated a sharp rebound in 2022, pushing market volume to 45 064 tonnes.

By 2023, the market adjusted to 41 433 tonnes, indicating a stabilization following the previous year's surge.

After a two-year decline, almond production in Greece increased in 2020. The country produced 28 240 tons of almonds that year, marking a sharp 28.7% rise from 2019. Production reached its lowest point in 2019 at 21 950 tons. The largest annual decline occurred in 2018, when production fell by 37.9%. Overall, between 2017 and 2020, production decreased by 34.3%, which translates to an average annual decline of 13.1%.

Following a two-year decline, the value of almond production in Greece increased in 2020. Output was valued at 165.2 million US dollars that year, showing a modest gain of 9.1% compared to 2019. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 151.4 million US dollars. The largest annual decrease occurred in 2018, with a drop of 31.5%. From 2017 to 2020, the production value fell by 41.2%, equivalent to an average annual decline of 16.2%.

Almond exports from Greece grew for the third consecutive year in 2020. Shipments totaled 1 954 tons, representing a 15.2% increase from 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, exports rose by 60.1%, with an average annual growth rate of 17.0%.

From 2017 to 2020, Bulgaria, Albania, and Cyprus were the main buyers of Greek almonds by volume. Bulgaria accounted for 25.6% of exports, Albania for 24.3%, and Cyprus for 23.5%. Together, these three countries made up 73.4% of total almond exports from Greece.

After two years of growth, the value of almond exports from Greece declined in 2020. Exports totaled 11.431 million US dollars, down 2.3% from the previous year. The peak value was recorded in 2019 at 11.702 million US dollars. The largest annual increase occurred in 2018, with a rise of 31.1%. Over the 2017-2020 period, export value increased by 43.4%, corresponding to an average annual growth rate of 12.8%.
