Earlier Report Observations

The almond market in Mexico saw a notable increase in volume to 12 645 t in 2019, up from 10 119 t the previous year. This growth was fueled by rising consumer interest in almonds as a healthy snack and sustained marketing efforts by the Almond Board of California targeting the Mexican market. However, in 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global supply chains and softened demand, leading to a drop in market volume to 11 774 t.

From 2021 onward, market volume continued to decline, reaching 6 132 t by 2023. A key driver was a 10% reduction in global almond production in 2022, caused by lower harvests in major producing countries like the United States and Spain, which constrained supply for import-dependent markets. Concurrently, stronger domestic consumption in Europe limited export availability to Mexico. Throughout this period, the market witnessed the emergence of new almond-based products such as almond milk and almond butter, catering to growing vegan and health-conscious segments.
