From 2018 to 2023, domestic production of alliaceous vegetables in Qatar demonstrated consistent growth, rising from 1.6 thousand tonnes to 2.9 thousand tonnes. This expansion was primarily driven by state-led initiatives such as the 'Qatar Farms' program, which qualified 105 local farms for daily supply of high-quality produce to consumer complexes. The widespread distribution of greenhouses and the adoption of refrigerated transport vehicles reduced spoilage and improved supply chain efficiency, directly supporting higher output.

Over the same period, imports fell substantially from 115.9 thousand tonnes to 41.2 thousand tonnes, leading to a contraction in the total market volume from 117.5 thousand tonnes to 44.1 thousand tonnes. The entry of the company Mahaseel in 2020 helped balance market prices for sellers, producers, and consumers. Furthermore, the 2022 launch of the 'Sustainable Qatari Agriculture' method, combining multiple farming techniques, aimed at enhancing local cultivation practices amidst ongoing challenges like harsh climate and water scarcity.

In 2024, import volumes recovered to 104.0 thousand tonnes. The government continued its support for the sector through measures like slashing fees for Ministry of Commerce and Industry services by over 90% and the introduction of new market services, including a fresh produce delivery and packaging service launched by the Harvest application.

From 2017 to 2020, India, Pakistan, and Iran were the top suppliers of alliaceous vegetables to Qatar. India accounted for 57.0% of imports by volume, followed by Pakistan at 10.5% and Iran at 9.2%. Together, these three countries made up 76.7% of Qatar's total imports in this category.

The total import value reached 48 854 thousand US dollars, reflecting a moderate increase of 3.6% compared to 2019. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 47 161 thousand US dollars, which saw the largest decline of 36.3% that year.
