Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2023, the wood fuel market in MENA showed relative stability, with volumes fluctuating between 40.5 million m³ and 41.2 million m³. Production increased gradually from 39.7 million m³ to 40.2 million m³ by 2022, then declined to 39.5 million m³ in 2023. Imports varied, dropping to 843 thousand m³ in 2020 before recovering, while exports remained low.

Global factors such as rising energy demand, limited access to modern fuels, and a focus on sustainable biomass alternatives have supported wood fuel consumption in the region. Government policies promoting renewable energy and carbon-neutral fuels, along with transportation and infrastructure challenges, also influence market dynamics. Supply chain disruptions and energy policy shifts affected availability and pricing during the period.

In 2024, wood fuel imports to MENA were 1 050 thousand m³, with exports of 74 thousand m³, indicating continued trade activity.
