The market for wheat bran in Moldova showed variable volume movement from 2018 to 2023. After a drop to 21,385 t in 2019, consumption recovered to 24,328 t in 2020 and stabilized near that level the following year. The market contracted slightly in 2022 before expanding sharply to 31,700 t in 2023.

In value terms, the market followed a comparable path, rising from $2.7 million in 2018 to $4.2 million in 2023. The most notable value growth occurred in 2020 and 2021, while 2023 saw the market value reach a new peak.

Domestic production of wheat bran increased steadily over the period, from 39,251 t to 50,951 t. Export volumes were volatile, and imports remained negligible except for a temporary rise in 2022.

Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production increased by 3.4%, with an average annual growth rate of 1.1%. The peak production was recorded in 2019 at 41 568 tons, which also saw the largest annual increase of 5.9%.

Moldova's production value of wheat bran, sharps, and residues rose for the third year in a row. In 2020, the output was valued at 5 495 thousand US dollars, up 5.8% from 2019. From 2017 to 2020, production value grew by 38.3%, translating to an average annual increase of 11.4%.

The highest volume was recorded in 2019 at 20 186 tons, while the largest annual increase occurred in 2018 at 32.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Romania remained the primary market for Moldova's exports in volume, accounting for 87.2% of total flows. The remaining volume was distributed among various other destinations.
